What Is a Soil Template?
A soil template controls the layout and content of your soil boring log output. When you generate a soil boring log, the template determines which fields appear, how they are organized, and what information is included in the final document.
Why Use a Custom Soil Template?
Every project has different requirements. A geotechnical investigation may need different data fields than an environmental assessment or a construction project. Custom soil templates let you tailor your boring logs so they include exactly the information relevant to your work — nothing more, nothing less.
How To Get Started
1.) Go to the Soil Templates underneath Project Data within the project that you have soil logs under. You will see all the current soil templates that the project has access to.
2.) To start a new template from scratch, hit + Create Template in the top right corner. If you want to just add or remove a column to an existing template, we recommend editing a copy. Press the 3 dots to the left of the template you want to copy, press Copy.
How to Use the Template Builder
The template builder utilizes drag and drop functions to build your template. To add fields to the top of the boring log, such as Sampler or Project Manager, use the grid widget. Once you click within the grid with a field added, you can formatting like font color and size, and if you want the answers underlined.
The boring log widget also utilizes drag and drop with columns. To add a column, first make sure there's space within the log, you can reduce a columns width by clicking it's header and going to Layout on the right sidebar and reducing the column width field. Once there's available space, a blue + Column will show up on the boring widget. Add a new column, and drag in the component you want to add.
Before you leave the template, make sure to click Save at the top.
